Frequently Asked Questions

I never talk to anyone about my problems and usually handle everything on my own. How will I know that you are the right person to start talking to?

I understand it can be very difficult to talk about your problems, especially if you find it difficult to trust in the first place. In some ways it can be easier to talk to an unbiased professional with whom you have no history. Once you meet me, you will get to decide if I deserve that kind of trust and privilege. It is something I do not take lightly and I will do my best to provide an atmosphere that is safe and non judgemental.

Feel free to check out my Facebook page to get a feel for who I am as a therapist and what you can expect if you decide to work with me.

Will you be covered by my insurance plan?

It depends. If your plan covers clinical counselling, then yes, I will be covered. I do not direct bill, therefore, you will have to pay at the end of your session and submit the receipt to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

If you have an EFAP through your employer, you will have to call them ahead of time to set up counselling. Ask to work with me directly at the time of your call.

I am an approved provider for the following programs: NIHB, IRS/IRDS, MMIWG, Victim Services, Veterans Affairs, Interim Federal Health Program, WCB, Person of Sufficient Interest (PSI), ComPsych, Homewood Health, and Lifeworks.

How long is a session and how many sessions will I require?

A session is typically 60 minutes. It is hard to say how many sessions you will require, as this is determined on a case by case basis. Some clients may only need 3-4 sessions while other clients may require longer term therapy.

What is your cancellation policy and procedures?

I have a 24 hour cancellation notice policy unless you are ill or there is an emergency. You can contact me or my office to cancel or you can cancel directly on the booking system.

If you fail to attend a session without contact, you will be charged 50% of my full fee. A second no show will result in my full fee being charged.

How much do you charge for a session?

My fee for individual, adolescent, and couples counselling is $140/hr. I provide a post secondary student rate of $100/hr upon proof of registration.

My family addiction counselling/consulting fee starts at $160/hr.

My fee for supervision is $140/hr. Normally, grad students do not pay for supervision during practicum placements.

Are there any potential clients that you do not work with?

I do not work with children under the age of 12 at this time.

What is virtual or online therapy? Is it secure and confidential?

Virtual or online therapy is counselling that is provided via your electronic device. You can use your cell phone but a laptop or tablet may be required depending on the type of therapy being provided. Some of the benefits is the convenience (you don't have to leave your home) or if you are in a location where counselling is not available, you can connect with a therapist in a larger location.

When you book an online session, you will be emailed a link on the day of your session. There is no need to download any additional apps.

The booking system I use is secure and HIPAA compliant. We will troubleshoot any potential technical issues we may encounter at the beginning of each session so you will always know what to do.
